Dr. McLaughlin is an author of research articles in publications including Rural Health, Nutrition, Health Communication, Electronic News and more. She was named an ECU Research Scholar Award in Spring 2021 and a University Scholar in Spring 2017.

She has served as a co-investigator for an NIH grant, a Department of Defense grant, and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant. Total grant participation of more than $600,000.00.
