Dr. Richards has articles published in Communication Research Reports, Journal of Consumer Health on the Internet, Western Journal of Communication, The Northwest Journal of Communication, Health Education, SAGE Open, The Health Educator, International Journal of Communication and Health, Journal of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and The Journal of Effective Teaching.

Dr. Richards work has been presented at the National Communication Association Conference, Southern States Communication Association Conference, DC-Area Health Communication Conference, Kentucky Conference on Health Communication and Eastern Communication Association Conference.

Outside of the classroom Dr. Richards enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and dog, Blue. Their favorite destination is the beach, and they particularly enjoy Surf City and the Outer Banks.
