SoC Student and Alumna Receive Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Gold Circle Awards
Congratulations to School of Communication student Caroline Inderlied and alumna Sydney Hunnell for each winning awards for the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s 39th Gold Circle Awards program!
Caroline won first place in the “Non-fiction Interview” category for collegiate student magazines for her article, “Stepping off the Sidelines,” where she wrote about a young woman working in the male-dominated world of sports broadcasting.
Sydney won a Certificate of Merit in the “Non-fiction Article” category for collegiate student magazines for her article, “The Invisible Illness,” where she wrote about a college student in recovery from a substance abuse disorder.
Both articles were published within the School of Communication’s student magazine, Countenance, which has received several awards for its written articles and design. Countenance is a general long-form feature magazine produced by students in the Fall Feature Writing class and the Spring Desktop Publishing class since 2017.
According to the CSPA’s website, “CSPA is an international student press association, founded in 1925, whose goal is to unite student journalists and faculty advisers at schools and colleges through educational conferences, idea exchanges, textbooks, critiques and award programs.”
This year, the Gold Circle Awards categories attracted 4,132 entrants in 91 categories (39 yearbook and 52 digital media).
