Kang becomes 17th president of Korean American Communication Association 

Congratulations to Dr. Jin-Ae Kang on her selection as the Korean American Communication Association’s 17th president! 

Kang works within the School of Communication as an Associate Professor. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Handong University in Korea, her Master of Arts from Sogang University in Korea, and her doctoral degree from the University of Alabama. 

In her welcome letter to members, Kang wrote, “As I begin my term as president, three keywords express my feelings about KACA: resilience, resourcefulness, and empowerment. Each of these qualities is represented in our recent history: We successfully turned the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic into opportunities. We made it possible for our members to be engaged year-round, even outside the major conference events, by adopting a virtual conference format.” 

“We found resilient minds among our members. We did not let racism that Asians and Asian Americans face discourage us,” wrote Kang. “We rather held a conversation session to share experiences and thoughts about racism in higher education. It was the first step to support one another to combat against systemic racism.” 

Kang will serve as president of the organization from 2021-2023. 

KACA was founded in 1978 and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based out of San Antonio, Texas. There are approximately 550 members worldwide. 

According to the KACA website, its mission is to “encourage and facilitate exchange of professional knowledge in various fields of communication” in North America and beyond.
