Student Success Specialist, Pirate Academic Success Center, East Carolina University

Women sitting on steps. What drew me to attend East Carolina University was the School of Communication Graduate Program. Throughout my time enrolled at ECU, the SOC provided me with opportunities that expanded not only my knowledge in the classroom but assisted me in developing skills as a leader and as a support provider to my students. The resources I was given and the faculty I was privileged to work with instilled in me the confidence to pursue a career in Higher Education.

I encourage current students to build relationships with their professors and to get involved in the School of Communication. It is evident the support the SOC professors have for their students and their genuine passion to support student success. I can confidently say that Dr. Richards, the Acting Director of the School of Communication Graduate Program, played a huge role in my success as a student and in my current role as a professional staff member in ECU’s Pirate Academic Success Center. I believe that my graduate studies and SOC faculty relationships have equipped me with the tools I need to thrive in a professional environment, and I have the ECU SOC Graduate Program to thank for that.
