Prividera takes helm of School of Communication as acting director June 1.

Dr. Laura PrivideraCongratulations to Dr. Laura Prividera on her new role as acting director of the School of Communication.

Prividera began working at ECU in the fall of 2003 as an assistant professor in the School of Communication. She was the associate director of the School of Communication from 2007 until 2021, serving as interim directed for three years. From June 2012 until February 2014, Prividera served as the interim associate dean of graduate studies and became permanent associate dean of graduate studies in March of 2014 and served until May of 2021. In 2007, she became the School of Communication graduate program director and served in this role until May 2021.

During her time as graduate program director for the School of Communication, Prividera was key in building a rich program that now offers two MA concentrations – health communication and strategic communication, a graduate certificate in health communication, and an accelerated MA program. The MA program now has 50+ students both face-to-face and distance education with alumni that work in a variety of communication fields including teaching, health communication, and organizational training.

Prividera started as acting director of the School of Communication as former Director Dr. Linda Kean assumed her new role as acting dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication on June 1, 2021.

Prividera received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Albany and masters and doctoral degrees from Bowling Green State University.
