ECU School of Communication Launches Communication In the Now Speaker Series May 26

The East Carolina University School of Communication will host a virtual event on “How Politics and the Pandemic Changed the Media Landscape” May 26, 2021 from 4-4:30 p.m. with Bill Hague, Executive Vice President in the Media Strategy Group at Magid.

This event is the launch of the school’s Communication in the Now Speaking Series developed by the school’s Alumni Advisory Board.  The May event will focus on media-related issues. The second virtual speaking event will be held September 9, 2021 and will focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The featured speaker for that event is National Association of Broadcaster’s Chief Diversity Officer Michelle Duke. A third virtual event will concentrate on sports and communication and is being planned for late fall/early winter.

For our first event, Bill Hague’s expertise will help us dive into media-related issues that have seen lasting impact from the past year. Magid is a consumer-centered business strategy company that incorporates market research to help brands develop engaging experiences and achieve success. As executive vice president, Hague has oversight of Magid’s local media and publishing practices that works with local media properties, such as TV stations, radio stations and newspapers.

Each Communication in the Now session is 30 minutes in length with 20 minutes from our experts followed by 10 minutes of Q&A. All School of Communication alumni and students are encouraged to join in on these timely conversations about communication. Sessions are designed to deliver important points on communication topics as well as connect alumni and students to each other and to key figures in a variety of communication related fields.

The School of Communication Alumni Advisory Board is composed of ECU communication alumni Michael Aho (international relations, United States government), Olivia Collier (Appalachian Regional Commission Program Director, NC Department of Commerce), Sam Matheny (Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President, NAB), Amanda Miller (Principle and Owner, Mavis Consulting), Jamie Sigler O’Grady (Founding Partner, J Public Relations), Marian Pittman (Executive VP, Cox Media Group), Amy Royster (Founder and Managing Director, Ideabar), Patrick Wixted (Senior Vice President, Ketchum Sports and Entertainment), and Crystal Yelverton (Executive Director for Market Development, Greater Los Angeles, March of Dimes).
